Nuvummi Ivujivik

Nuvummi means "at the point” in Inuktitut and is the landholding corporation for the community of Ivujivik.

Ivujivik means "the place where ice accumulates because of strong currents” in Inuktitut is Nunavik’s northernmost community. Ivujivik, along with Puvirnituq, was one of two Inuit villages that refused to sign the 1975 James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement. In 2006, Ivujivimmiut voted in a referendum to finally join the treaty, which kick-started a lengthy land selection process. In 2015, Category I and II lands were finally officially transferred to the Nuvummi LHC.
