Nunaliit Association Mission & Values

Our mission is to empower and support Landholding Corporations (LHCs) through administrative and legal support, training and capacity building as well as advocacy. We strive to help LHCs strengthen their autonomy and achieve sustainable growth, while also protecting the land for generations to come. Our work is about finding the right balance and honouring the Inuit knowledge and legacy of the elders and the past, while opening doors for development and opportunities in the future.

We focus on partnership and cooperation in everything we do. By fostering regional cooperation and building strong, trusting relationships, we aim to support LHCs in achieving their goals. Our work is guided by core values that reflect who we are and what we stand for:

Our Role & Services

For over two decades, the Nunaliit Association has worked to support and empower Landholding Corporations (LHCs) across Nunavik. From its beginnings as the Nunavik Landholding Corporations Association, Nunaliit has grown to become a trusted partner for LHCs, providing technical, administrative, and legal support that strengthens their ability to manage and develop their lands responsibly and sustainably.

Supporting day-to-day operations

Supporting Day-to-Day Operations

Nunaliit assists LHCs with practical, hands-on tasks such as drafting resolutions, contracts, and land leases, preparing invoices, assisting with the collection of accounts receivable, and coordinating land use requests. We also guide boards and staff through tenant relations, asset acquisitions, and policy development, empowering LHCs to manage their responsibilities with confidence and autonomy.

Building knowledge and capacity

Building Knowledge and Capacity

Training and capacity building are central to our approach. We host annual workshops for general managers and board members and develop tailored training materials that cover governance, land management, and administrative practices. We also develop and maintain digital tools such as our interactive web map and internal documentation portals to provide LHCs with accessible and up-to-date resources.

Legal and human resources guidance

Legal and Human Resources Guidance

Nunaliit provides comprehensive legal advice to LHCs in carrying out their mandates. We help LHCs negotiate agreements, contracts, and business partnerships, fostering conciliation and consensus building grounded in traditional Inuit conflict resolution practices. Our support also extends to human resources, ensuring that employee management practices are fair, culturally appropriate, and aligned with the well-being of employees.

Fostering collaboration and unity

Fostering Collaboration and Unity

At its core, Nunaliit is about connection and collaboration. By offering guidance, training, advocacy, and innovative tools, we help LHCs work together, share knowledge, and strengthen regional unity in land governance. Our goal is to empower LHCs to sustainably develop their lands, make informed decisions, and serve their communities with confidence and purpose.

Advocacy and regional representation

Advocacy and Regional Representation

Beyond supporting individual LHCs, Nunaliit acts as a regional voice, representing their interests in committees, working groups, and strategic initiatives. We bring LHC perspectives to discussions on land management, economic development, housing, and community planning, ensuring that policies and programs reflect the perspective and priorities of LHCs and the communities they represent.
